Changemaker Spotlight: Tenisha Gaines and Dana M. Langford, Village of Healing

With a shared passion for serving and advocating for Black families,  Tenisha Gaines and Dána M. Langford co-founded Village of Healing, a community development organization focused on healing and empowering the village by delivering quality health care that meets the social and cultural needs of patients while also eliminating social determinants of health and decreasing disparities.

Village of Healing’s CEO, medical director, and Co-founder, Dána is a certified nurse midwife and previously a women’s health nurse practitioner, who witnessed firsthand racial disparities in healthcare. She observed Black Women at the core of the discussion but not considered for solutions. Specializing in the theory of evidence-based practice and community compassion and engagement, Dána is invested in solution-based evaluation and implementation. She’s committed her career to serving, educating, empowering, and advocating for Black Women.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Tenisha is Village of Healing’s Director of Operations and Co-founder. She has dedicated her career over the past 22 years to community and healthcare. She worked her way from medical assistant to holding an MBA. Experienced at all levels of leadership, development, and mentoring and serving on many committees in the community, she works to decrease disparities that families in the community face daily. The health and wellbeing of her community remains at the core of Tenisha’s beliefs.
